General Breed Description...
The Newfoundland is known unto many as the gentle giant among the canine breeds.  He is a deeply dedicated and loyal family companion who has the charming ability to capture the hearts of all who know him.  He's typically massive in appearance and acts neither dull nor ill-tempered.  His single most important characteristic is his sweet disposition which has become the hallmark of the breed.

Newfoundlands are also renowned for their intelligence, benevolence, protectiveness, and tolerant love for children.  It's no small coincidence that the Nanna dog in the original Peter Pan movie was a Newfoundland because he's truly a perfectly devoted companion for the whole family to love.  Never the less, parents should always supervise young children as to avoid the possibility of any unnecessary harm occurring to their Newfie.

As a member of the working dog group, you will also find the Newfoundland a multipurpose dog at home, on land, or in the water.  He is capable of draft work and possesses natural life saving abilities.  From generation to generation, the Newfoundland's naturally inherited instincts, benevolence, intelligence, and loyalty continue to lay the foundation for today's Newfoundland as one of, or in my opinion, the most wonderful and exciting breed in the world!

Adult male averages:  29" height / 130-150 lbs.
Adult females averages:  26" height / 100-120 lbs.
